Catholic Teens - October 12, 2005
my house. So watching the Packer games of late--this past weekend was much
more enjoyable then the previous 4...---allows me to catch up on things a
bit. The latest commercials and advertisements for various things. It's
good to see that I haven't missed much. Some families I know play a game
while watching TV..called "find the lie." You watch a commercial or TV show
and see what they're trying to convince you of. For instance, "drink this
beer and you'll instantly be popular with the other gender." or "buy this
truck..and you'll be a real man" or "wear this make-up and you'll be
beautiful." All lies of course. No beer makes one more attractive. No
truck makes a guy a man. And no make-up beats the natural beauty that God
has given you.
Try it next time you're watching TV...

Question of the Week:
"What is the Liturgy of the Hours?"
-It's a book of prayers that is prayed throughout the day--generally
morning, mid-day, evening, and night--hence "of the Hours." Priests pray it
and most religious communities do as well. A growing number of lay people
do it as well. My wife and I have been praying night prayer since we
started dating, and continue not that we're married.
It was a way to consecrate one's whole day to God. Recall how St. Paul
tells us to "pray without ceasing." This was one way to do that.
The Liturgy of the Hours is not Mass, but another form. And like the Mass,
which is done the same way all over the world; people pray the same prayers
everywhere in the world.
Those at St. Peter's Parish pray the Liturgy of the Hours at their
Confirmation Retreat.
