Catholic Teens - September 1, 2005

Hey All--
Hope you all had a nice first day back to school!
As the news reports continue to show the devastation along the Gulf Coast,
especially in the New Orleans area--please continue to pray for all our
brothers and sisters down there. May they find peace amidst such tragedy,
and get the help that is needed. And may God bless and sustain them all.
Amen.

Question of the Week:
"What is the Muslim Religion and how is it different from Catholics?" -World religions are always a popular question. Muslims follow the prophet
Mohammed, a man who lived around 700AD in the Middle East. They view him as
God's greatest prophet. Like Christians, they believe in the existence of
One God in Heaven. Islam(the religion Muslims follow) traces it's heritage
back to Abraham of the Old Testament, just like Christians.
The big difference between Catholics and Muslims is how they view Jesus.
Muslims view Jesus as a prophet, but a lesser one then Mohammed, and they
see Jesus as just a man. Catholics(and all Christians for that matter) view
Jesus as the Son of God, part of the Trinity(Father, Son & Holy Spirit).
Muslims reject this.
The way Muslims and Catholics view God tends to differ as well. Catholics
see God as a Loving Father, who seeks a personal relationship with each and
every human being. That's why He sent Jesus, to restore that relationship.
Muslims don't view God in the same personal way.
Obviously, whole books have been written about the above topics, but this is
a brief summary that will give you an idea on how to think about this
question. If any of you have further specific questions, feel free to ask.
