Catholic Teens 3-18-08

Hey All—
Looking for something to do over Spring Break—I know you’re all “bored” already J some of the topics for World Youth Day in Australia have recently been released.

World Youth “Day” actually lasts a full week—go figure. A part of the program is “catechesis” or teaching of the faith. However, the teachers aren’t like your normal CCD classes—here the teachers are Bishops and Cardinals. How cool is that?! In Toronto for WYD in 2002, our group attended a session with Francis Cardinal Arinze from Africa. He was Amazing!

Anyway, below are the themes that the bishops and cardinals will be speaking on—it’s something you can also look into on your own even now. Note that it is focused on the Holy Spirit—take that which you have received (or will receive) in Confirmation to an even deeper level!

Themes Announced for Youth Day Catechesis
Bishops to Guide Youth in Studying Holy Spirit and Mission
SYDNEY, Australia, MARCH 16, 2008 (Zenit.org).- The Pontifical Council for the Laity determined the themes for World Youth Day's catechesis sessions, which will focus on the Holy Spirit and missions.
Organizers of the July 15-20 youth event announced the Vatican's choices for the three days of catechesis, to be led by bishops from around the world in over 300 locations in Sydney.
On Wednesday, July 16, bishops will guide youth in learning about the call to live in the Holy Spirit, drawing from Galatians 5:25. The following day, youth will consider the Holy Spirit as the soul of the Church, as explained in 1 Corinthians 12:13. Friday, July 18, will be focused on the theme of World Youth Day, taken from Acts 1:8. That day's catechesis will highlight the Holy Spirit as the principal agent of mission.
"Catechesis represents the spiritual heart of World Youth Day, when young people from various backgrounds and circumstances unite to listen, reflect, discuss and pray in harmony," said Auxiliary Bishop Anthony Fisher, coordinator of World Youth Day '08.
"I encourage all pilgrims who are attending WYD08 to begin reflecting on the catechesis themes now," he said, "so that come July, they are spiritually prepared to witness the Spirit and gain as much as they can from their WYD08 experience."

==================================================Intentions:
This is one of the more heart-rending accounts I’ve heard in some time, please keep this precious family in your prayers:

PLEASE join us in praying for my very dear friend's little boy. He is 2 years old. His name is Marshall Wyatt Thompson. He is dying in the hospital and Doctors have not found what is wrong with him. His body is discarding all of his red blood cells through his urine. He was given a blood transfusion but he still continues to decline. The doctors are now saying whatever this is has damaged his liver. He is one of 6 children all under the age of eight. The mother, Kim, just gave birth to twins less then two weeks ago. Robby (his father) is staying with Wyatt at the hospital while Kim is at home with the new babies and other children. Please pray for this little boys life - I myself could not imagine loosing my own two year old son and Wyatt's mother is in torment just being away from him already. Thank you so much for any prayers you can offer for this precious child and his family.

Sincerely,
Lisa Yamin

Update received this morning:

GREAT NEWS!! Thank you all so much for your prayers!! They are working! A nurse came and woke up Marshall's daddy in the night and said that his red blood cell count has sky rocketed - so much so that it is almost miraculous!!! I have recieved so many responses from those of you who are praying for him - it has been truly amazing! Thank you and please keep it up.
